Your Artist-in-Residence for 3 Days
Home from Home invites viewers to step out of their usual routine and invite an artist – me – into their home for a 3-day research residency. The launch, at Handshake’s booth in Munich 2013, yielded 80 invitations worldwide – a life-time supply…
Home from Home is an experiment in:
- serendipity
- reciprocity
- stepping beyond one’s comfort zone
The project invites you to step out of your usual routine and invite an artist – me – into your home for a 3-day research residency. In return, I will welcome you into my home in Wellington, New Zealand, “the coolest little capital in the world”(Lonely Planet).
The project was launched at the Handshake booth at the Handwerkmesse, Munich in March 2013:

The project is designed to extricate me from my comfort zone and open up avenues of exploration that I cannot yet imagine. I’m looking to travel – in my work as well as in the world – via a series of short-stay research residencies in the homes of friendly strangers.
Of the 80 invitations I received, I have so far taken up New Zealanders’ offers to stay in Auckland and various locations in the South Island.
